The Azimio Brigade, led by Kalonzo Musyoka, has issued a stern warning to the Kenya Kwanza administration, stating that they will take to the streets in protest if the government proceeds with the implementation of new tax measures. Musyoka emphasized that they would mobilize Kenyans nationwide to demonstrate against the Finance Bill, which they believe will result in increased prices of essential commodities such as bread.
Accompanied by other Azimio leaders, including DAP Kenya leader Eugene Wamalwa, Musyoka made these remarks during a Sunday church service in Embakasi East Constituency, Nairobi. Wamalwa accused the government of ignoring the plight of Kenyans who struggle to afford a single meal due to the soaring cost of living.
Meanwhile, Narc-K leader Martha Karua, speaking in Nakuru County, condemned Kenya Kwanza’s proposals in the Finance Bill, which aims to generate an additional 300 billion shillings through taxes. Karua described the government’s actions as inhumane and questioned the rationale behind subjecting people to further economic hardship.
As parliament convenes to deliberate on the ouster of Agriculture CS Mithika Linturi, the Azimio leaders demand a thorough investigation into allegations of Linturi’s involvement in a fake fertilizer scandal. They urge the 11-member committee handling the matter to provide a comprehensive report based on evidence, rather than personal biases, to ensure a fair and informed decision.
The Azimio Brigade’s threat of street protests underscores growing discontentment with the government’s economic policies and highlights the need for transparency and accountability in governance.
