High Court Judge Chacha Mwita has rejected former Treasury Cabinet Secretary Ukur Yatani’s request for anticipatory bail in light of ongoing investigations into graft allegations against him. Yatani had sought anticipatory bail, claiming that the investigations by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) were malicious and motivated by ill will.

In response, the EACC argued that there was no imminent threat of Yatani’s arrest, as investigations into the alleged misappropriation of funds at the Marsabit County Government are still ongoing. The judge, therefore, declined to grant anticipatory bail and directed all parties involved to appear for an inter-party hearing on June 14.

Yatani, along with Marsabit Governor Mohamud Mohamed Ali, other county officials, and family members, remains under investigation for various allegations including theft of public funds, abuse of office, procurement irregularities, conflict of interest, and unexplained wealth.
