DP Gachagua has stood by the proposed budget allocation for his office in the upcoming 2024/2025 financial year.

Presented by a delegate from DP Gachagua’s team, the proposed figures outline plans to allocate Ksh. 460.4 million for the renovation of his Harambee Annex offices and an additional Ksh. 660 million for the refurbishment of his official residence in Karen.

The allocation also includes Ksh. 250 million for combating alcohol and substance abuse.

In a statement released on Thursday, head of the Deputy President Communication Service, Njeri Rugene, accused the media of distorting the budgetary proposals.

Rugene stated that Gachagua’s office is seeking Ksh. 300 million for the renovation of the Harambee House Annex Office, the official residence in Karen, and his official Mombasa residence.

“The Harambee House Annex Office and Mombasa Residence have been neglected over 15 years, affecting critical areas of habitability, safety and security,” reads the statement.

Regarding vehicle procurement, Gachagua’s office indicated that it has requested Ksh. 100 million.

“For the last 10 years, the Office of The Deputy President has heavily relied on old, and refurbished vehicles which are costly to maintain, compromising service delivery,” the statement further adds.

A representative from the Deputy President’s Office addressed the National Assembly Committee on Administration and National Security on Wednesday, saying that alcohol and substance abuse had evolved into a national security concern.

He said that the escalation has necessitated the engagement of various offices, including that of the Spouse of the Deputy President, Pastor Dorcas Rigathi.

“The fight against alcohol and drug abuse has taken on a life of its own, it has a strong relationship between reduction and control of alcoholism,” Patrick Mwangi told the committee.
