Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has slammed a faction of Mt. Kenya leaders regarding the upcoming Limuru 3 Meeting, scheduled for this Friday.
Speaking to the press on Thursday, just a day before the event, which has been framed as a socio-economic and political gathering for the Mt. Kenya region, Governor Waiguru dismissed the conference as mere political posturing.
She said that the Kenya Kwanza leaders were focused on delivering tangible results for the citizens. She also said that she would not attend the meeting, and that those in government should prioritize their responsibilities to serve the Kenyan people over engaging in politics.

“Sisi tulipeana ahadi kama chama cha UDA during campaigns. Now we are working. Those going around saying sijui Limuru 3, Limuru 2, we want to tell them that at this time, we are working,” Waiguru said.
“Wakati wa kupanga siasa utafika…we are not there yet, we are working so that bei ya unga ishuke. Wakati wa kupanga siasa utafika; sio wakati wa siasa. Wananchi wanataka tutimize ahadi na hapo ndipo tuko.”
Governor Waiguru’s statement comes a day after Public Service Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria was announced as one of the organizers for the event, the agenda of which remains uncertain.
Kuria mentioned that the meeting on Friday would gather professionals, businessmen from Mt. Kenya, and representatives from religious organizations to strategize the region’s future direction.
He also indicated that a discussion on resource allocation would be prominently featured at Limuru 3, following DP Rigathi Gachagua’s recent initiation of a dialogue on the principle of ‘one man, one vote, one shilling’.
“We are going to have that debate because it is justified. We must talk about how our people are being given resources under the one-man-one-vote-one-shilling,” said Kuria.
Azimio la Umoja leaders from Mt. Kenya region led by Narc Kenya Party leader Martha Karua, Jubilee’s Jeremiah Kioni, and former Laikipia Governor Nderitu Muriithi, have been actively rallying support for the Limuru 3 meeting.
They stressed that the meeting aims to provide guidance to the Mt. Kenya region and it would mark the start of anti-government protests over high taxation as outlined in the Finance Bill 2024.
“We are starting our revolution on Friday and it is part of our home-grown solutions to the high cost of living,” said Kioni.
“Already we are seeing people inviting themselves to our meeting. We have started doing accreditation for the attendees,” Muriithi added.
