Timothy Cheruiyot to Face Brian Komen in 1500m Finals at Athletics Kenya National Championships

Kenya’s Olympic 1500m silver medalist, Timothy Cheruiyot, is set to compete against Africa Games reigning champion, Brian Komen, in the finals of the 1500m at the Athletics Kenya National Championships. The event commenced today at the Ulinzi Sports Complex.

Cheruiyot demonstrated his prowess by comfortably winning semi-final three in the 1500m, clocking a time of 3:37.10, ahead of Joseph Rotiken and Ezekiel Kipkorir. Brian Komen, who recently triumphed at the Doha Diamond League, also showed his dominance by winning his heat with ease in a time of 3:44.66. He finished ahead of Josphat Kipkirui and Boaz Kiprugut, who represented prisons.

In addition to his performance in the 1500m, Cheruiyot competed in the men’s 800m semi-finals, securing a win with a time of 1:46.83 at the same venue. Meanwhile, in another men’s 800m semi-final, Evans Kosgei of North Rift edged out Cornelius Tuwei from KDF, emerging victorious with a time of 1:49.32.

The finals promise an exciting showdown as Cheruiyot and Komen, two of Kenya’s top middle-distance runners, go head-to-head.
