DP Gachagua has extended an olive branch to former President Uhuru Kenyatta, aiming to resolve their differences amidst the current political uncertainty that has left him in a precarious position.

During a visit to Kirinyaga County, DP Gachagua appealed to Uhuru, suggesting they collaborate to achieve the broader objective of maintaining the prosperity of the Mt. Kenya region.

However, he warned that if they fail to reconcile, the Mt. Kenya region could face numerous challenges.

“Uhuru Kenyatta is our child. Let him come so that we can join hands together. Is there anyone who has a problem with him? Aren’t elections over?” the DP posed.

“Now we should join hands as children of the mountain and love each other because if we don’t do so, we will go through a lot of problems. Do you want us to unite?” He asked the crowd, which responded in agreement.

The Deputy President, who has been a staunch critic of Uhuru, has recently been seen taking a different political direction amid reports of a rift with President William Ruto.

In March 2024, DP Gachagua sought forgiveness from former First Lady Mama Ngina Kenyatta for his remarks made during the lead-up to the 2022 elections.

Additionally, DP Gachagua recently pledged to lead the one-man-one-vote-one-shilling campaign, a contentious issue that has sharply divided opinion between its supporters and critics.

Mt. Kenya leaders have previously urged DP Gachagua and Uhuru to work together and present a united front to advance the region’s interest.

During the Limuru 3 meeting held on Saturday, May 18, Wachira Kiago, a member of the Kikuyu Council of Elders, endorsed a Gachagua-Uhuru reconciliation and called on the two leaders to meet and make peace.

However, the DP assured Mt. Kenya residents that the region would not be deceived or swayed in the wrong direction.

“It is too early to start fighting over the 2027 and 2032 polls. Leadership comes from God. Let us work for the people for if it is about positions, relax, and God will give them to you,” DP Gachagua said.

The DP’s absence this past week, as he skipped key presidential events, raised speculation about his relationship with President Ruto and alleged isolation within the ruling party.

DP Gachagua, however, dismissed these claims, stating that he had taken time to pray in Mt. Kenya.
