Two people lost their lives and a house was torched after a land dispute in Gem Yala Sub-County, Siaya County.

Amidst a contentious land feud over an access road, 50-year-old Charles Orwa met his demise, purportedly by wielding fatal blows against Francis Omondi, 45.

Siaya County Police Commander Cleti Kimaiyo received intelligence from Assistant Chief Noah Oluoch (Luri ‘B’), detailing a harrowing murder incident that unfolded in their community.

Upon receiving the distressing report, officers from Yala police station promptly responded, arriving at the scene to a chilling sight: the lifeless bodies of Omondi and Orwa, surrounded by a grim pool of blood.

Preliminary investigations revealed a troubling sequence of events: a dispute flared between James Warambo’s family and that of the late Orwa, with Omondi bravely stepping in to mediate.

Omondi faced a fatal blow from Orwa’s machete, as confirmed by Mr. Kimaiyo.

Enraged bystanders swiftly retaliated, beating Orwa before authorities from Nyawara could intervene.

The mob then targeted Orwa’s residence, setting ablaze one permanent structure and two semi-permanent buildings.

Orwa’s son Marcel Ohoma fell victim to the mob’s fury, sustaining a spear wound to the thigh.

Mr. Kimaiyo sayed that Ohoma was taken to Yala sub-county hospital for urgent medical attention, while the deceased bodies were transferred to the mortuary of the same facility.

Police have launched an investigation to the get to the root of the cause.
