President Ruto has appointed Chief of Defence Forces Charles Muriu Kahariri as the chairperson of the presidential taskforce for the Kenya Home of Human Origins Museum and Science Park in the Lake Turkana Basin.

In a Gazette Notice, the President also appointed Mary Gikungu, the Director General of the National Museums of Kenya, as a member of the taskforce.

She will join the Principal Secretaries from the departments of Treasury, Defence, Wildlife, Tourism, Culture, Shipping, and Maritime Affairs, who are also members of the taskforce.

CDF Kahariri succeeds the late General Francis Ogolla, whose appointment to the taskforce was revoked following his death in a helicopter crash.

In his new role, Gen. Kahariri and his team will be responsible for conducting research, designing, and operationalizing the project. This will involve studying and identifying various infrastructural developments necessary to exploit the tourism potential of the Lake Turkana Basin.
