Chavakali High School rugby coach Brian Walumbe is confident his team will reclaim their former glory in this year’s Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) games. The zonal games kicked off at Chavakali High School, Vihiga County, over the weekend.

After his team dominated Mbale High School with a 35-0 victory in the Chavakali Zonal Games, Walumbe spoke to Citizen Digital. He acknowledged that his team faces significant fitness challenges that need to be addressed but noted their ability to build momentum as the game progressed, indicating a positive trend in their performance.

Walumbe also highlighted specific areas needing improvement. The 2024 rugby squad aims to restore Chavakali’s prominence, as the former rugby 7s giants have not competed in the national championships since 2018.

The 2024 KSSSA term two games will advance to the sub-county level next weekend.
