Former President Donald Trump has cautioned that his supporters might reach a “breaking point” if he is sentenced to prison or house arrest following his historic criminal conviction. In an interview aired Sunday on Fox News, Trump acknowledged the possibility of facing jail time or home detention at his sentencing on July 11.

“I’m ok with it,” Trump stated, but expressed doubt about the public’s reaction. “I’m not sure the public would stand for it,” he added, suggesting that such a situation could be difficult for the public to accept. “You know at a certain point there’s a breaking point.”

This warning comes at a time when the country is already anxious about potential political violence in the run-up to the November 5 presidential election. Trump, who will be running as a convicted felon, has consistently indicated he will not accept the election result if he loses to President Joe Biden.

A New York jury recently convicted Trump on all 34 felony charges of falsifying business records during the final stages of the 2016 presidential campaign to conceal a sex scandal involving porn star Stormy Daniels. This marks the first criminal conviction of a former president in US history.

While each charge carries a potential four-year jail term, experts believe it is highly unlikely the judge will impose a custodial sentence. Trump also faces three other criminal trials, including one related to his efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election, which he lost to Biden.

Trump’s supporters previously stormed the US Capitol on January 6, 2021, following a provocative speech in which he urged the crowd to “fight like hell.”
