The recent claims by Yemen’s Houthi rebels regarding attacks on the British destroyer HMS Diamond and two commercial vessels in the Red Sea have been firmly denied by Britain’s Ministry of Defence.

The Houthis alleged that they successfully targeted the destroyer and the vessels Norderney and Tavvishi, with the latter reportedly catching fire. However, the UK MoD has labeled these assertions as false.

The Houthis have been conducting attacks on ships in the region since November, claiming these actions are in support of Palestinians in Gaza.

These attacks have led to significant disruptions in global shipping routes, compelling companies to opt for longer and more expensive detours around southern Africa, and raising concerns about potential wider destabilization in the Middle East due to the Israel-Hamas conflict. In response to these maritime threats, the United States and Britain have conducted strikes against Houthi targets.
