Athletics Kenya (AK) has announced a formidable team of 59 athletes for the African Senior Championships, set to take place from June 21 to 26, 2024, in Douala, Cameroon.
The team consists of 26 female and 33 male athletes who will immediately begin residential training to prepare for the event. “The team will report for residential training camp on Thursday. The athletes are also required to report at Riadha House on Thursday at 3 pm,” read the official statement. The Kenyan team will be led by national head coach Julius Kirwa.
“The team will be led by Etyang, chairman AK National Police Service, and national head coach Kirwa,” the statement continued.
Notable Athletes
- Roncer Kipkorir Konga: 2023 Prague half marathon champion, teaming up with Joseph Kiptum in the 10,000m.
- Stanley Waithaka: World 10,000m silver medallist, competing in the 5000m alongside Levi Kibet.
- Brian Komen: African Games 1500m champion, competing with Boaz Kiprugut for the 1500m gold.
- Alex Ng’eno: Former World U20 Championships silver medalist, competing in the 800m alongside Nicholas Kiplagat.
- Esther Mbagari: Three-time national sprints champion, competing in the women’s 100m and 200m.
- Rukia Nusra: Aiming for the 100m hurdles title.
