Nairobi Man Fined Ksh.20 Million or 30-Year Prison Term for Illegal Possession of Elephant Tusks

A Nairobi man has been ordered to pay a Ksh.20 million fine or in default serve 30 years in prison after being found guilty of being in possession of four elephant tusks with an estimated street value of Ksh.500,000. Anthony Ngila Masaku, appearing before Kibera Senior Principal Magistrate Samson Temu on Thursday, was charged with contravening Section 92(4) of the Wildlife Conservation and Management Act 2013. ” The prosecution through Principal Prosecution Counsel, Mr. Samson Ng’etich proved that on 20th July is 2019 at Lafamilia Building Tala shopping Center, the convict was found with 4 pieces of elephant tusks with a street value of Ksh. 500,000,” the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) said in a statement.The prosecution had called seven witnesses to testify in the matter.
