Vihiga Queens head coach Boniface NyamuNyamu has called on the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) to improve the Kenyan Women Premier League by securing more sponsorships for the clubs ahead of the next season. The coach emphasized that clubs have struggled to perform at their best due to inadequate funding and believes that attracting shirt sponsors and well-paying broadcast partners would significantly enhance the league.
“The league will be much better if there are sponsors. Financial constraints have been our biggest undoing,” NyamuNyamu said. He stressed that sponsorship is vital not only for the survival of all participating clubs but also to ensure that the league winners receive a worthy award.
NyamuNyamu highlighted that financial support would enable clubs to manage their operations more effectively, support player development, and improve overall team performance.
Furthermore, the coach pointed out the importance of a more structured and fair scheduling system. He urged the federation to ensure all matches are played simultaneously and to avoid long breaks between games. “Scheduling matches to be played at the same time and avoiding long breaks before playing another match will prevent cheating or match-fixing. It is currently the problem. Due to the delays, those with the motives find space to plan and carry out the outlawed activity,” NyamuNyamu explained.
He added that uniform match scheduling is a common practice in many top-tier leagues worldwide. “It ensures that all teams compete under similar conditions, maintaining the integrity of the competition. Long breaks can disrupt a team’s momentum and create opportunities for unfair advantages.”
NyamuNyamu concluded by emphasizing that by standardizing match times, the league can foster a more competitive and honest environment, which is crucial for its reputation and credibility.
