Naivas FC head coach Collins Omondi is optimistic about his team’s chances of overturning their first-leg defeat to Sofapaka in the FKF Premier League promotion playoff.

Sofapaka narrowly edged out Naivas 1-0, with in-form striker Jacob Onyango scoring in the final moments of the match held on Saturday at the Police Sacco Stadium.

Coach Omondi emphasized the importance of capitalizing on scoring opportunities in the upcoming second leg. Reflecting on the first match, Omondi acknowledged their missed chances as a critical area for improvement.

“Unfortunately, we conceded a goal in the last minute, but these are mistakes that happen in football. We created numerous chances but didn’t manage to score. My team got carried away, but we will address this to ensure we find the net in the next game,” noted Omondi.

Omondi stressed the need to convert their chances if they are to prevail in the two-game series.

“It’s a disadvantage to us, but there is a second leg and the away goal rule. We must secure a win in the second leg. My players didn’t always make the right decisions in this match, but I will address and correct these aspects for the next game,” he added.

The return leg is scheduled for Sunday, July 14, 2024, at the Dandora Stadium. Naivas will be seeking redemption and aiming for promotion to the top-tier league for the first time in their history, while Sofapaka will be fighting to retain their top-flight status for next season.
