The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has officially unveiled the timetable for the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA). This assessment plays a vital role in the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC), signifying the culmination of Grade 6 education for students across the country.
Introduced as part of Kenya’s transition to the CBC, the KPSEA focuses on skill acquisition and practical knowledge, moving away from traditional exam-based learning methods.
The Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) evaluates learners’ competencies at the conclusion of their primary education (Grade 6), replacing the previous Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) system.
KPSEA offers valuable feedback on students’ performance across various subjects, enabling educators to pinpoint areas for improvement and ensuring that the education system fosters a diverse range of skills.
For the 2024 academic year, the KPSEA will commence with a rehearsal on Friday, 25th October 2024, followed by the main examination, which will take place from Monday, 28th October 2024, to Wednesday, 30th October 2024.
On Monday, students will complete their Mathematics and English papers. Tuesday will feature tests in Kiswahili, Integrated Science, and Sign Language, while Wednesday will conclude the KPSEA with assessments in Creative Arts and Social Studies.
“The time allowed for each paper is indicated against the name of the paper and no extra time is to be allowed. Time for reading through questions is part of the time shown on the question paper except where special paper instructions indicate differently,” said KNEC in instructions to supervisors.
Candidates are prohibited from leaving the assessment room before the allocated time for the paper has concluded, unless they have received special permission from the Supervisor.
“Do not leave a sheet of paper you have written on or your answers in such a position that another candidate can read them. You should not give or obtain unfair assistance, or attempt to do so, whether by copying or in any other way, and your work should not show proof of such unfair assistance,” KNEC further warns candidates.
Candidates who commit any assessment irregularity during a paper will have their results for the entire subject canceled.
