A Narok Court has found Simon Githaiga Kimani guilty of trafficking narcotics, resulting in a significant fine of Ksh.50 million and a ten-year prison sentence in default. Kimani, who pleaded guilty to the charges, was convicted under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Control Act No. 4 of 2022.

According to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), the conviction emphasizes the severity of drug-related offenses and aims to deter potential offenders. “The prosecution, led by Ms. Peninnah Mwaniki PPC, presented facts and documentary exhibits after the suspect pleaded guilty,” the ODPP stated. Resident Magistrate Bett Ngayo, upon reviewing the evidence, concluded there was no reasonable doubt about Kimani’s guilt.

The ODPP’s statement also served as a stern warning to other drug traffickers, highlighting the legal repercussions of such activities. “This court verdict serves as a clear warning that perpetrators of such heinous crimes will be held legally liable,” the ODPP declared.

This case underscores the commitment of the Kenyan judiciary and law enforcement agencies to combat narcotics trafficking and enforce stringent penalties on those found guilty.
