Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura has isssued a stern warning to schools contemplating resuming operations amidst the flood crisis.

During an interview on the vibrant airwaves of Hot 96 Breakfast show, government spokesperson Isaac Mwaura underscored the imperative for school administrators to heed the decree set forth by President William Ruto.

In a decisive move, the president directed the Ministry of Education to defer the scheduled reopening of all educational facilities “until further notice,” citing the ominous forecast of exacerbating conditions in the imminent future.

Originally slated for April 29, 2024, the anticipated return to classrooms was subsequently postponed to May 6, 2024, owing to the tumultuous disruptions wrought by the relentless deluge.

“The Ministry of Education is directed to postpone the re-opening of all schools in the country for the second term until further notice,” said Ruto on Friday.

Mwaura further emphasized that stringent measures will be taken against any individuals or institutions found to be disregarding the prescribed directives. He emphasized that such violations will be addressed in strict conformity with the legal framework.

“Some of these schools are being used as rescue centres. So when they re-open, where do they expect members of the public who have been relocated to go?” Mwaura posed.

Additionally, he highlighted the ongoing efforts of the government in orchestrating the relocation and evacuation procedures for those impacted by the calamity. The aim is to furnish temporary shelter for the displaced populace, ensuring their safety and well-being during this tumultuous period.
