Busia Woman Representative Catherine Omanyo has made shocking revelations regarding an alleged bribery attempt aimed at influencing the outcome of the impeachment case against Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi. In an interview with Citizen TV, Omanyo disclosed that she was approached with offers of bribes amounting to millions of Kenyan shillings to sway her report in favor of Linturi.

According to Omanyo, most committee members tasked with determining Linturi’s fate were approached with similar bribes in an attempt to influence the proceedings. She revealed that the bribery attempts were intense, with some members nearly resorting to physical altercations due to the pressure exerted.

Despite the alleged bribery attempts, Omanyo emphasized the glaring nature of the allegations against Linturi in the fake fertilizer saga, asserting that he should not have escaped accountability. However, Linturi ultimately survived impeachment when seven out of the 11 committee members voted in his favor.

The outcome of the impeachment process has sparked controversy, with opposition MPs alleging corruption among committee members and questioning the integrity of the decision. Rarieda Member of Parliament Otiende Amollo raised concerns about impropriety and misconduct, calling for further investigation by the powers and privileges committee.

In response, Speaker Moses Wetangula dismissed the allegations, emphasizing the need for specific motions against implicated members before casting aspersions. Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi criticized the committee’s decision, calling it a revocation of the House’s previous stance and urging Parliament to refuse recognition of Linturi until further action is taken.
