Former Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho has shared his deep connection to Raila Odinga, stating that he could not imagine himself in a political landscape without him.

Joho credited the former premier with introducing him to politics and expressed his intention to retire alongside him.

The former governor remarked that the only way he wouldn’t retire with Raila was if the Azimio leader convinced him otherwise.

“I am a founding member of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and I want to tell you, in my political life unless Raila says otherwise. I entered politics with Raila and I will exit with Raila,” he stated.

Joho, who is the Deputy Party Leader of ODM, stated that his commitment to retiring with Raila is informed by his subscription to Raila’s ideology. Joho joined national politics in 2007 as the Kisauni MP before being elected as governor in the 2013 and 2017 general elections.

He also noted that former President Uhuru Kenyatta used Raila’s blueprint from when he was the Minister of Roads to develop the nation’s infrastructure.

Joho further added that some of the roads being constructed by President William Ruto’s administration were originally proposed by Raila in 2002.

Raila was appointed Minister of Roads by President Mwai Kibaki in 2002 before they fell out three years later.

While Joho expressed his willingness to retire from politics with Raila, he also exuded optimism that ODM would form the next government in 2027.

“Myself I believe I can become President of Kenya,” he spoke of self and the party’s ambition.

Raila Odinga has repeatedly assured his supporters that he will have a voice in the 2027 presidential elections.

Should he decide to retire from politics at that time, Joho did not reveal whether that would signigy the end of his presidential ambitions.
